Soil management and how we fertilise the grass will have a fundamental effect on it’s nutritional value and thus on the health and performance of the livestock.

Maerit and Marinure are modern aids to grassland management bringing the well-proven benefits of seaweed to modern forage production.

Roots are the hands of the plant and all plants rely on their root system to supply nutrients.

There are two ways to encourage strong root development
1 Provide a hospitable living soil which creates the right environment in which plant roots can develop themselves
2 Use Maerit to stimulate the plants own natural root development function helping to overcome the shortcomings in the soil.

Appropriate uses of Maerit with grassland and forage crops

Aeration wthe Oxygenerator
Immediately after aeration an application of Maerit will help to stimulate root development into the soil recently shattered by the Oxygenerator and the working of the roots themselves will complement the work of the Oxygenerator and help to keep the soil open.

Grazing
Maerit should be applied to grazing field in order to stimulate more balanced nutrient uptake by the herbage and an increase in mineral content which will be of direct benefit to the health of the stock.

Silage / Hay
The stock depend for 12 months of the year on the grass / herbage grown on the farm and increasing the mineral content of conserved forage is vitally important to the winter health of the stock and in the case of dairy and suckler cows can have a significant influence on milk yield and quality and the ease of calving and fertility.

Nitrogen costs are a significant factor in grassland management and the benefit of Maerit increasing rooting area enables the grass to make more effective use of the nitrogen applied which means better grass can be grown with less nitrogen being applied.

Maize
Maize is naturally in low trace element values. Maerit applied at the appropriate time keeps maize going throught the mid summer check and enhances dry matter yields and starch levels.

Fodder Crops
Applied at the early leaf stage encourages rapid establishment and applied again at early root swelling ensures that these crops reach their full potential, particularly in seasons when adverse growing conditions would have led to disappointing yields.
